Galewind Spires

Spires of bark above the cloud, in a wind that has never once died down

Thunderhide, the Stormward

Bark grown up out of the cloud into needles, and a wind that has not stopped since its world ended in a storm that lasted a year. Kestrel's Perch clings to the flank of the middle spire: everything there was built by hand, and everything built was tied down. Rope bridges join the spires.

On Stormcrest stood the Stormward, a giant of crystal that drank the lightning so the bolts never fell on the ropes. Since the sap went sour, something has got into its crystal, and it throws the storm instead. The children call it Thunderhide now.

The Galewind Spires: bark grown up out of the cloud into needles, and a wind that has not stopped since our world ended. This is Kestrel's Perch, on the flank of the middle spire. Everything you stand on here, we built. Everything we built, we tied down.

Galewing

The Crag Teeth, Level 25

A dragonfly as long as a bridge that hunts the wind itself over the Crag Teeth, the first of the galewings or the last; the old songs disagree. She wakes when the gale is high, and the whole floor hears her shriek. She stoops like a falling stone, pins you with a downdraft, and calls her kind down the wind.

It wakes on its own about every half hour, and the whole floor hears it: The gale over the Crag Teeth rises to a shriek: Galewing has woken!

Dungeon

The Hollow Spire

For a party of up to six, from level 24. Every party walks its own copy.

The tallest of the Shrieking Spires, entered by its old door once the spireborers are cleared from it. The Stormward's lightning once ran down through it into the Tree, glassing the stone white; now the storm has nowhere to go but in. The Stillhunter waits in the Still Hall, and at the spire's heart the Glasswyrm coils round the Grounding.

Thunderhide, the Stormward

Level 28

The Galewind's guardian on the Seat of Storms: the Stormward, a crystal giant that drank the lightning into its hide for a thousand years so the bolts never fell on the spirefolk's ropes. Since the sap went sour it throws the storm instead, calling the bolt down on the charged and flinging lightning from one climber to the next.

Waits in the Seat of Storms. Everyone who climbs fights it together, and it grows with them. The first time it falls, Ambermere opens for everyone; then it returns, to be fought again for what it leaves.
